Abstract

The authors describe the network layer of the CEBus (Consumer Electronics Bus Standard) network architecture. The network layer design is based on OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) layering conventions for local area networks. Primary functions of the network layer are dynamically maintaining the network topology (connectivity) and routing network traffic across six different physical media. Additionally, the CEBus network layer handles some aspects of flow control typically associated with the transport layer.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
