Abstract

The catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 was studied over HZSM-5 zeolite. For this catalytic reduction, oxygen was found to be essential. And as the concentration of oxygen increased, the conversion of NO increased also. The kinetics of the NO-NH3-O2 reaction was also investigated. The kinetic data were expressed by the experimental rate equation. Furthermore, from the experimental results, including the effect of temperature on the NO reaction, the reduction mechanism was proposed to be the decomposition of ammonium nitrite formed by the reaction of NO2 with ammonium ion.
