Abstract

Catacaustic is the envelope of pencil of rays reflected from a given hypersurface (mirror). In this paper, we give parametric equation of the catacaustic of a hypersurface in Euclidean space in terms of geometrical properties of the mirror and angle function between the incident rays and normals to the hypersurface. We study both, the case when source is located at infinity or at the origin. Applications to surfaces in the Euclidean 3-space are also treated.
