Abstract

Membrane effects of carbachol (50 μM) on GH 3 pituitary cells were studied using whole-cell type electrophysiological techniques. Carbachol (50 μM) decreased the threshold for generation of spontaneous and current-induced action potentials and prolonged their duration. It is suggested that carbachol blocks potassium channels in GH 3 pituitary cells, and that the effect is mediated via activation of muscarinic cholinergic receptors.
