Abstract

Novel type nanostructural optodes in the form of capsules are introduced. The unique feature of the proposed sensor format is presence of a liquid core within the polymeric shell, this core is loaded with classical optode system containing ion-selective receptor and optical transducer. It is shown that depending on the nanostructure architecture different responses are induced. On the contrary to the typical systems using nano- or microspheres, soft capsules with liquid core offer unique high optical signal sensitivity due to unhindered transport of ions within the bulk of the probe. The sensitivity range can be easily affected by changing the amount of ionophore present in the system.
