Abstract

The authors have proposed a unidirectional isolated secondary-resonant medium-voltage AC-DC converter composed of a primary modular matrix converter (MMxC) with a level-shifted PWM control, high-frequency transformers, and secondary resonant-diode-rectifier-circuits. This paper presents the capacitor-voltage-balancing control of the MMxC with a level-shifted PWM control. The proposed capacitor-voltage-balancing control achieves the capacitor voltage balance of the MMxC using three types of the electric power distributions in the MMxC. Therefore, the proposed control method can compensate the capacitor voltage imbalance without affecting the power source and a DC-load. The proposed feedback control systems with the DC control variable can be constructed using the capacitor voltage distributions obtained from the capacitor voltages in the arm. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified by the experiments using the 200 V-5 kW laboratory prototypes.
