Abstract

An agent producing characteristic changes in dog kidney tissue cultures was recovered from cultures inoculated with serum of known infectivity from 2 dogs with naturally acquired distemper. The agent could be established in serial tissue culture passages and was found capable of producing clinically, histopathologically and immunologically typical distemper in three ferrets and one dog. The cytopathogenic activity could be completely neutralized by dog and ferret distemper immune sera. On the basis of these observations a convenient tissue culture neutralization test was designed.
