• A study of the post crisis outbound travel patterns since 1995 of 49 economies. • Demand recovers quickly after epidemics. • Demand is delayed until two or more years after financial crises have abated. • Pent-up demand leads to a short term spike in departures that fades within a couple of years of the crisis end.
