Abstract

Forced expiratory flow rate (FEF 25–75) declined over 6 months in TAP (2.0 L to 1.8 L) but rose in TSP (2.1 L to 2.4 L)(p 0.05). Six month acute rejection rates were similar between groups: 27% (TAP) vs 29% (TSP). CMV infections were slightly lower in TSP(4%) compared to TSP (15%) (p ns). There was no difference in bacterial infections between the two groups. Decrease in renal function,WBC and platelet counts was similar in both groups. Cholesterol levels significantly increased in TSP compared to TAP after the first six months (p 0.05). These preliminary results show similar acute rejection and infection rates, FEV1 and FVC measurements between the two groups. Changes in renal function and bone marrow suppression were also similar. There was a significant improvement in FEF 25–75 in the TSP compared to TAP.
