Abstract

Abstract The authors compare the performance of broadband radiometers with spectrally dispersed measurements. Spectrally dispersed radiometers may be more accurately calibrated than is possible with broadband filter instruments. They also have a larger information content than have filter measurements. Accuracy and information content are two important requirements for climate observations.
