Abstract

For ultrasonic problems, an optimized approximation method was developed to calculate the transducer generated sound field in layered media with curved interfaces. The transient sound field is calculated for two-layered problems such as angle beam probes coupled to a half-space, and sound fields in steel after a water delay. It is demonstrated that Snell's law is not applicable to calculate the incidence angle of the sound field generated by a limited element.
