Abstract

Abstract This paper uses MoM/Green’s function method to model the reflected wave from an inclined conducting cylinder efficiently for the array-type singlehole borehole radar. Using the exact analytical solution of the point electric source field around the conducting cylinder requires efficient modeling of the source in a borehole. We proposed replacing the source with the vertical electric dipole and magnetic one in a homogeneous medium. Numerical calculations with the proposed method gave the time domain signals of the reflections from the inclined conducting cylinder. In this simulation, the used antennas were the dipole and loop antennas. We ran the field experiment in the soil to measure the inclined conducting cylinder, similar to the one used in the numerical simulation. Observing this experimental data, we confirmed that the difference between the dipole and loop antenna signals was identical to the numerical simulation.
