Abstract
Methods of calculating lateral interactions in systems of adsorbed molecules are considered which allow determination of stable orientational structures of polar molecules as well as the parameters of the vibrational and electronic spectra of an adsorbate. A number of new results on determination of the ground state for dipoles on a planar hexagonal lattice (of honeycomb type) are presented. Dipoles in this state are shown to form a complex vortex antiferroelectric structure. In these structures dipole orientations are inclined relative to the lattice plane, because of the adsorption potentials, resulting in Davydov splitting of spectral lines in two perpendicular polarizations.
