Abstract

Nonstationary solutions of the Fokker-Planck equation for the brownian motion in a potential i.e. Kramers equation can be obtained by an eigenfunction expansion. By applying a matrix continued fraction method it is possible to determine the eigenvalues for arbitrary friction.
