Abstract

Capacity of wind power installation has increased rapidly all over the world in recent years. However, due to the possibly unreasonable capacity/location planning and lack of proper incentives, wind curtailment is a serious problem at the same time. How to make full use of wind energy and reduce power generation costs is an important issue. From the view of wind farm planning, the wind curtailment is because that the installed capacity of wind farm is beyond grid's capacity of wind power accommodation or economic capacity of wind power accommodation. This paper establishes an economic accommodation capacity (EAC) model of wind power based on an all-scenario-feasible (ASF) unit commitment (UC) model, where the ASF model can ensure the security so that the wind curtailment can be avoided. The objective of this model is to get the optimal installed capacity of wind farm and takes it as the EAC. In addition, the max accommodation capacity (MAC) model and the optimal buses selection (OBS) model of wind power are also proposed in this paper to help with wind power planning. Numerical test suggests that these models are effective.
