Abstract

ObjectiveTo describe the logistical situation, the level of maintaining, knowledge of the cold chain and compare the public vaccination centres with the private centres in the Lleida Health Region in the year 2015. MethodA prevalence descriptive study was carried out (n=50). Information about the characteristics of the vaccination centres, the infrastructure and the features of the cold chain, as well as the knowledge of the staff was collected with a questionnaire structured in four sections. The existence of statistically significant differences between the public and private centres was determined with the chi square test with a significance degree (P)<.05. ResultsThe study coverage was 100%. Most refrigerators (66%) were sanitary equipment, 64% didn’t have alarm to electric power failure and 68% to open door. In a 54.2% centres vaccines were in contact with the refrigerator wall. Private in comparison with the public centres using more domestic refrigerators (66.7% vs. 15.6%; p<0, 001), recorded less the temperature (38.9% vs 3.1%; p<0, 001) and had no labelling of location of vaccines (94.4% vs 41.4%; p<0, 001). ConclusionsAlthough most refrigerators keep on the right temperature, and it was recorded correctly, it seems necessary to improve vaccine centres infrastructure and the training of professionals. Also we highlighted the need for greater control and training of private centres.
