Abstract

Abstract CABOT ESR 4140 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel produced by electric-furnace melting, vacuum degassing and electroslag remelting by use of small-heat-size technology. Electroslag refining improves cleanliness and lowers the sulfur content to provide improved isotropy, ductility and toughness. Cabot ESR 4140 has outstanding fatigue strength and a good combination of strength and ductility. Its applications range from gas turbines to oil-field equipment. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness and fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SA-371. Producer or source: Cabot Corporation, Machinery Division.
