Abstract

Insulin and C-peptide are secreted in equimolar amounts from the pancreas [1]. However, since C-peptide is not hepatically cleared, it may be possible to estimate insulin secretion from the urinary C-peptide excretion rate [1]. This may give a noninvasive way of measuring insulin production in neonates [2].
