Abstract

For the first time in five years the Friends of the Northern Storytelling Festival didn’t have to hunt for acts. All the participants in the July 1992 festival were chosen from unsolicited letters and portfolios; they actually had to turn people down. This doesn’t mean life has become easier for the staff and volunteers of the festival. For co-ordinator Michele Emslie, the work doesn’t even slow down until long after the stories are over, and by the fall the fundraising starts again.
