Introduction

In late 2016, I joined the ISSOTL17 program committee as a member of the society and as a student of the University of Calgary. A humbling aspect of SoTL is the winds that fill the sails of traditional academic hierarchies (e.g., full versus assistant professor, director of XYZ institute, number of publications) seemed to carry less weight at the ISSOTL conference. I felt the collegiality and a mutual ethos of learning waft through ISSOTL17.
