Abstract

A soil liner project was sponsored by the EPA to provide information on the construction factors that affect the permeability of compacted soil liners. After construction of a field liner, permeability was measured in the field using four sealed double ring infiltrometers set in the liner surface and a pan lysimeter set in a gravel underdrain. Dye was infiltrated into the liner via one of the infiltrometers, and the liner was then examined. Lab tests were also performed on compacted specimens prepared from the same soil used in the field liner.
