Abstract
Buckling of polar orthotropic circular plates resting on elastic foundation is studied in the context of the Rayleigh's method. A variant of this method, suggested originally by Rayleigh and based on the use of noninteger power, is contrasted with the variant containing an undetermined multiplier (the latter being equivalent to the Rayleigh-Ritz method). Results are obtained by computerized symbolic algebra.
