Abstract

Abstract The kinetics of the bromination of 2‐naphthol‐6,8‐disulphonic acid with Br2 and BrOH in aqueous buffer solutions show that the rates with both brominating reagents are the same (within 20%). The rates are almost independent of the hydrogen ion concentration (pH range 3,85–5,20) and the concentration of the reactant in excess. The rate is first order with respect to the reactant in lower concentration. The reaction is base catalyzed.
