Bridging Education Gap through Educational Innovation for Sustainable Development: A Bibliometric Analysis of the Scopus Database

This study examines the global research landscape on educational inequality and its contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. Using data retrieved from the Scopus database, 190 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings published between 2015 and 2025 were systematically analyzed. The bibliometric procedures included publication trend analysis, citation analysis, co-authorship networks, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic mapping using VOSviewer and Bibliometric software. The results indicate that research on the education gap has shown a stable but intensifying trend, with a significant increase in publications during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting growing global concern over widening educational disparities. The findings reveal that the education gap is primarily driven by socioeconomic status, digital inequality, family background, regional disparities, and teacher quality. Highly cited studies emphasize that inequalities in learning opportunities emerge from early childhood and are reinforced by unequal access to technology, quality schooling, and supportive learning environments. The analysis also identifies the United States, China, and the United Kingdom as the most influential contributors to this field, with strong international research collaboration patterns. Thematic and conceptual structure analyses demonstrate that educational inequality is closely linked to sustainable development, digital transformation, academic performance, and social inclusion. Importantly, this study highlights the growing relevance of policy-oriented solutions, including student loan systems, digital infrastructure development, and targeted social interventions, as strategic mechanisms to reduce educational inequality and expand access to higher education. Overall, this bibliometric mapping provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution, structure, and key drivers of research on the education gap. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers in designing evidence-based strategies to promote equitable, inclusive, and sustainable education systems in support of SDG 4.

Purpose This study aims to map the intellectual landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in Electric Vehicles (EVs) from 1995 to 2024, highlighting global research trends, key contributors, and emerging thematic areas through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. Design/methodology/approach This is a quantitative study employing bibliometric methods to analyze 1245 English-language documents retrieved from the Scopus database. Using Bibliometrix (R-package) and VOSviewer, the analysis covered publication trends, citation patterns, co-authorship networks, institutional and country-level contributions, and keyword co-occurrences. Key bibliometric laws (e.g., Lotka’s and Bradford’s) and performance indicators (e.g., h-index, g-index) were used to assess productivity and impact. Findings The results reveal a strong upward trajectory in AI–EV research, with an annual growth rate of 22.69% and a surge in publications after 2016. China, India, and the U.S. are the most prolific contributors, while collaboration networks show increasing global integration. Core research themes include battery management, smart charging, autonomous driving, and reinforcement learning, with deep learning and predictive modeling playing central roles. Originality This is the first large-scale, longitudinal bibliometric study to systematically analyze the evolution of AI–EV research over a 30-year span. The findings offer a structured knowledge base for academics, policymakers, and industry stakeholders, highlighting key trends, research gaps, and opportunities for future innovation in AI-driven electric mobility.

Mapping knowledge frontiers: a bibliometric analysis of Industry 4.0, circular economy and human resource management

Purpose This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research trends at the intersection of Industry 4.0, circular economy, and human resource management (HRM). Design/methodology/approach This study analyzes 693 documents from 2019 to 2024 using a bibliometric approach, including performance, citation, keyword co-occurrence, thematic mapping and trend topic analysis, highlighting a sharp rise in research driven by digital transformation and sustainability. Findings We demonstrate that Industry 4.0 and circular economy practices are well-established, while HRM's role in supporting them is emerging. The role of HRM practices like digital skills, green HRM, and leadership in enabling sustainability is underexplored. The analysis highlights gaps in workforce development for digital and sustainable transformations and the importance of global collaboration. Practical implications Theoretically, the study integrates HRM into Industry 4.0 and Circular Economy frameworks; practically, it guides organizations, policymakers and educators in developing workforce competencies, green HRM practices and leadership skills for sustainable digital transformation. Originality/value This is the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis integrating Industry 4.0, Circular Economy and HRM. Unlike earlier work focused on technology or operations, it highlights HRM's emerging role in digital and sustainable transformation. The study offers an integrated roadmap for future interdisciplinary research connecting technology, sustainability and human capital development.

The purpose of this study was to discover the trends and axes of education gap research and to examine the structure of concepts. Through network analysis, this study examined the emergence of key words in research and the networks they form. This was done to explore the perspectives of research, provide a comparative discussion, and identify implications. For this purpose, the word frequency, TF-IDF, and co-occurrence frequencies of 257 studies published from 2004 to 2024 were analyzed and compared, and the network properties, centrality, and CONCOR analysis were conducted to explore temporal trends. The results of the study showed, first, that 'educational gap', 'student', 'education', 'society', 'teacher', 'parent', and 'socioeconomic background', 'Korea' were consistently frequent, with differential trends in appearance over time. Second, the network consisted of 200 nodes and 19,350 links, with a high centrality of words that represent educational systems and achievement, stratification of differences, family variables, and social phenomena and movements. Third, 'region', ' education gap', 'policy', 'closing', and 'support' were identified as key words in 2004-2010; 'education gap', 'school', 'academic achievement', 'parents', and 'socioeconomic background' in 2011-2017; and 'students', 'society', 'school', 'COVID-19', 'policy', and 'educational inequality' in 2018-2024. By exploring the structure and temporal variation of these key concepts, this study found that education gaps have been explored as an issue that is connected to families, schools, and regions, and has been mobilized for policy support as a phenomenon linked to social stratification, inequality, and polarization.

Four decades of IJBM research: thematic evolution and future agenda for digital financial services

Purpose This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric and science mapping analysis of the International Journal of Bank Marketing (IJBM) from 1983 to 2024, aiming to explore the journal's evolving research landscape, identify influential contributors, uncover key thematic areas and map international collaboration networks. Design/methodology/approach Following the SPAR-4-SLR protocol, a consolidated dataset of 1,627 documents was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus databases. Advanced bibliometric techniques, including Reference Publication Year Spectroscopy (RPYS), co-citation analysis, keyword co-occurrence and thematic mapping, were applied using the Biblioshiny apps from the Bibliometrix package in RStudio. The study spans five distinct time slices to examine thematic evolution and the structural development of bank marketing research. Findings The analysis reveals core research paradigms such as trust, service quality, financial literacy and FinTech, alongside emerging themes like sustainability and financial well-being. Notable contributions were observed from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, India and Vietnam. The thematic analysis distinguishes between motor, niche, basic and declining themes, reflecting dynamic shifts in research focus over time. Research limitations/implications The study is limited to documents indexed in Scopus and Web of Science and may not capture the full breadth of global literature. Future research could incorporate additional databases or qualitative assessments for deeper exploration. Practical implications The findings provide actionable insights for scholars and institutions by highlighting high-impact research areas, supporting collaboration opportunities and offering benchmarks for academic recognition and strategic planning. Originality/value This is the first longitudinal bibliometric review of IJBM’s full publication history. It delivers valuable insights into the journal’s thematic trajectory and scholarly influence, reinforcing its centrality in advancing bank marketing research amidst digital and socio-economic transformation.

Contextualising the achievement gap: assessing educational achievement, inequality, and disadvantage in high-Income countries

We examine the disparities in educational outcomes for high-income countries as they are reported by the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), with a specific emphasis on a more nuanced exploration of SES-based achievement gaps. To explore differences in the educational inequality and disadvantages associated with SES-based achievement gaps by country, we analyze three measures: overall average performance, educational inequality (or achievement gaps), and educational disadvantage (comparative achievement gap patterns). We find that, when examined together, these three measures are instructive for understanding the differences in educational outcomes across countries. Our findings offer insight into the PISA results that go beyond average achievement. We recommend that country-level averages should not be emphasised or interpreted without also considering educational inequality and disadvantage.

Emerging Trends and Research Hotspots in Inborn Error of Immunity: A Bibliometric Perspective

Background Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) (previously known as primary immunodeficiency) are genetically defined immune disorders that have seen accelerated growth in both research and clinical attention. The genomic era and evolving classification frameworks have transformed the field, making it necessary to map its development, key contributors, and thematic shifts. Objective To conduct a bibliometric analysis of global IEI research from 1995 to 2025, identifying emerging trends, influential authors, key institutions, and gaps in regional representation. Methods A literature search was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and PubMed databases, limited to English-language publications between 1995 and 2025. Search terms included combinations of genetic- and immune-related keywords such as “monogenic disorder,” “gene mutation,” “SCID,” “PID,” and “inborn errors of immunity.” After applying defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 840 original research articles were selected from an initial 1,236. Bibliometric mapping and visualization were performed using Bibliometrix via Shiny in R Studio and VOSviewer to analyze co-authorship networks, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic evolution. Results IEI-related publications have increased steadily, with an annual growth rate of 4.5% and a notable surge between 2020 and 2023. The United States, Iran, France, and Germany emerged as leading contributors, with high-impact institutions such as the NIH, Harvard University, and Université Paris Cité playing prominent roles. Among Islamic and Arabic countries, Iran and Turkey demonstrated increasing publication activity, though overall citation impact remained relatively low. Kuwait stood out with a higher average citation rate (23.8), indicating strong influence despite a smaller volume of output. An overlay visualization of international co-authorship networks confirmed the dominance of the United States and Western Europe as central hubs. However, countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco, and Iran showed a rise in research participation and collaboration since 2018, reflecting growing engagement from several Islamic and Arabic nations, particularly through partnerships with European institutions. Thematic mapping revealed newborn screening and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as central, well-developed motor themes, reflecting their critical and evolving role in the field. Foundational but less developed topics included common variable immunodeficiency, whole-exome sequencing, and genetic diagnostics, indicating their broad relevance yet ongoing maturation. Notably, post-2018 research trends demonstrated a pronounced shift toward precision diagnostics, highlighted by the growing prominence of next-generation sequencing and other genomic technologies. Conclusion Over the past three decades, IEI research has undergone a transformative shift from phenotype-based classification to genomics-driven approaches, mirrored by the increasing integration of precision diagnostics and translational priorities such as newborn screening and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, now identified as active and well-developed motor themes. Thematic mapping confirmed the centrality of these evolving domains while also highlighting common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) and whole-exome sequencing as foundational but less developed areas, underscoring ongoing gaps in their clinical translation and research density. Despite substantial progress, disparities in research output and visibility persist across regions. While institutions in established research hubs continue to lead global collaborations, a notable rise in contributions from Arabic and Islamic countries signals a meaningful shift. These emerging efforts are particularly valuable for uncovering underrepresented IEI subtypes linked to consanguinity and region-specific genetic profiles, addressing critical gaps in both global datasets and regional clinical relevance. Sustaining this momentum demands targeted investment in diagnostic infrastructure, inclusive research policies, and equitable collaboration frameworks. Broadening participation from underrepresented regions is not only a matter of global equity but a necessary step toward capturing the full spectrum of IEI diversity.

Tracing the threads: A bibliometric exploration of workplace bullying, psychological well-being, and employee performance

This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis that offers a quantitative and integrative examination of the research on workplace bullying, psychological well-being, and employee performance. Understanding the relationships among workplace bullying, psychological well-being, and job performance is critical for organizations to create a positive and healthy work environment. A review of the literature using bibliometric methods was performed on papers within the WoS database to analyze the research landscape regarding workplace bullying, psychological well-being, and job performance. Diverse analytical techniques were utilized, including citation analysis, cocitation analysis, coauthorship analysis, co-occurrence analysis, and bibliographic coupling, and the findings are presented. An analysis of citations, cooccurrences, and keyword cooccurrences in the field identified highly cited publications and key themes: positive psychology and well-being, mental health therapy and intervention, and gender differences in work. These insights can guide researchers in recognizing influential works, understanding collaboration patterns, and exploring emerging research areas. Ultimately, the direction and impact of future studies in the field should be enhanced. This study has practical implications for organizations by synthesizing existing knowledge and guiding the development of interventions and policies to address workplace bullying, enhance psychological well-being, and improve performance. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive bibliometric analysis, which offers a quantitative and integrative examination of the research on workplace bullying, psychological well-being, and job performance. By mapping the intellectual structure, identifying trends, and uncovering research gaps, this study provides a unique perspective on the interrelatedness of these constructs.

The study aims to analyze key issues and research trends in international research on the digital inequality of immigrants. Based on a total of 401 articles on digital inequality of immigrants published in Web of Science registered journals between 2000 and February 2023, the authors identified key research topics. The analysis reveals an increasing number of articles on immigrants’ digital inequality, starting with two articles in 2006, and showing a sharp increase since 2020. Research areas on the digital inequality of immigrants are led by various academic fields, including social science, medicine, and multidisciplinary studies. Five topics were identified through topic modeling and word network analysis: ‘immigrants’ digital inequality in health’, ‘COVID-19 and immigrants’ digital inequality’, ‘Immigrants’ digital inequality in education’, ‘Immigrants’ inequality in the digital age’, and ‘Digital inequality of migrant workers’. It was shown that topics of ‘immigrants’ digital inequality in health’ and ‘Immigrants’ inequality in the digital age’ have been attracting significant attention.

E-Governance system: A bibliometric exploration for current trend, gaps, and future directions

E-governance has emerged as a critical mechanism for transforming public administration through the effective use of digital technologies, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and citizen participation in governance processes. Despite the rapid growth of scholarly output in this domain, a comprehensive understanding of its intellectual structure, research trends, and emerging themes remains limited. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of e-governance research published between 2004 and 2025, drawing on data retrieved from the Scopus database. Following a rigorous screening process based on predefined inclusion criteria, 63 peer-reviewed journal articles were selected for analysis. Bibliometric and science mapping techniques, including citation analysis, keyword co-occurrence, co-authorship, and collaboration network analysis, were employed using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny software. The findings reveal a steady growth in e-governance research, particularly after 2015, reflecting the increasing integration of information and communication technologies in public administration. The Netherlands, India, the United States, and the United Kingdom emerged as key contributors in terms of research productivity and citation impact. Core thematic clusters highlight e-governance, e-government, governance approaches, ICT, public administration, and citizen participation as dominant research areas. However, the analysis also identifies conceptual gaps related to emerging technologies, ethical concerns, digital inequality, and sustainability. This study provides a systematic overview of the evolution of e- governance research, offering valuable insights for scholars and policymakers while outlining promising directions for future research.

Looking backward toward the future: A bibliometric analysis of the last 40 years of meningioma global outcomes.

This study is the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis about meningioma to date. The aim of this study is to identify the most influential publications in this field through citation and co-citation analysis, to examine international collaborations, to identify the conceptual framework of the subject and emerging trending topics through keyword analysis, and to identify the most productive countries, authors and journals. 9619 articles on meningioma published between 1980 and 2023 were downloaded from the Web of Science (WoS) database and statistically analyzed. In this study, various bibliometric techniques were utilized, including trend keyword analysis, thematic evolution analysis, factor analysis, conceptual structure analysis, citation and co-citation analyses. Bibliometric network visualization maps were created to identify trend topics, citation analysis and cross-country collaborations. The Exponential Smoothing estimator was used to predict article productivity in the coming years. The first 3 countries that contributed the most to the literature were respectively; USA (2664, 27.7%), Japan (972, 10.1%), Germany (943, 9.8%). The first three most productive journals were respectively; Journal of Neurosurgery (number of article = 496), World Neurosurgery (399), Acta Neurochirurgica (378). The most productive author was Mcdermott MW (number of article = 88) and the most active institution was the University of California System (number of article = 470). In addition to high-grade meningiomas, the most studied topics from past to present have been magnetic resonance imaging, recurrence, radiation therapy, and skull base. As a result of the analyses to determine trend topics, the subjects studied in recent years were diagnostic and imaging methods, surgical and treatment methods, prognosis and survival, epidemiology and quality of life, and with the advancement of technology, machine learning and prediction models. Scientific collaboration was seen primarily in articles from western countries, especially the USA, European countries, and Canada. However, there was also a not insignificant effect in developing countries such as China, India, and Turkey.

Trends and Patterns of Artificial Intelligence Research in Libraries: A Bibliometric Analysis

This research embarks on a bibliometric journey to delineate the evolution, trends and thematic territories of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in library science from 2018 to 2022. Utilising Scopus as the foundational data source, we employed a suite of bibliometric instruments – citation analysis, collaboration network examination and thematic mapping – to dissect publication dynamics, authorship patterns, and thematic progressions within the domain. Our exploration reveals an ascending trajectory in AI research outputs, spotlighting pivotal advancements in information retrieval, knowledge organisation and user-centric services in libraries. The analysis underscores the imperative for interdisciplinary collaboration, spotlighting how it fuels the progression of AI in library science, with ethical considerations and the anticipation of longitudinal impacts forming crucial research vectors. We unearthed significant research clusters, identifying emergent themes that promise to shape the future discourse of AI applications in library contexts. Notably, our findings advocate for a paradigm shift towards integrating AI to navigate the challenges of digital information management, enhance user engagement, and foster innovative service delivery in libraries. This study, through its comprehensive bibliometric analysis, not only enriches the theoretical discourse surrounding AI’s role in transforming libraries but also delivers practical insights for librarians, researchers, and policymakers. It charts a strategic course for future investigations, emphasising the importance of embracing emerging AI technologies to sustain the relevance and efficiency of libraries in the digital age. This research contributes to the ongoing dialogue on the transformative potential of AI in libraries, offering a lens through which future research directions and strategic decisions can be discerned.

A bibliometric review of research on resilience, motivation and prisoners, 1912-2024

Background Research on resilience and motivation among incarcerated individuals has gained increasing academic interest due to its relevance in rehabilitation, reducing recidivism, and promoting societal reintegration. Prisoners often face psychological distress, social isolation, and behavioral challenges, making resilience and motivation essential for enduring incarceration and engaging in rehabilitative efforts. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis that maps the evolution, influence, and thematic development of this research area remains limited. Methods This study aims to examine publication trends, key contributors, major thematic domains, and intellectual structures in resilience and motivation research related to prisoners from 1912 to 2024. Using Scopus-indexed literature, a bibliometric analysis was conducted employing co-authorship networks, keyword co-occurrence, and citation analysis to assess research output, collaboration patterns, and thematic progression. Results Findings reveal a significant surge in research since the early 2000s, with the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany leading in publication volume. Keyword analysis identifies four dominant thematic clusters: psychological resilience and coping, addiction rehabilitation, post-incarceration reintegration strategies, and decision-making within correctional environments. Citation analysis highlights pivotal works that have shaped the field, reflecting a shift from punitive correctional models toward rehabilitative, psychological, and policy-oriented approaches. Despite advancements, gaps remain in cross-cultural perspectives, gender-specific interventions, and post-release support systems. Conclusions The findings underscore the need for global collaboration, interdisciplinary approaches, and innovative rehabilitation strategies to advance resilience and motivation research in correctional contexts. This review contributes to the development of evidence-based policies, correctional education, and rehabilitation frameworks aimed at improving prisoner well-being, reducing recidivism, and fostering successful reintegration into society.

Impacts of Regional Disparities and Policy Bias on Chinese Educational Inequality and Inequity

China's economy and society have achieved remarkable success over the past few decades. However, these outstanding achievements, on the contrary, have widened the inequality and inequity between regions. Nowadays, with the announcement of certain educational policies, educational inequality and inequity have been concentrated by the public recently. This study presents a relatively complete view of how economic and political reasons in China caused some educational inequality and inequity. Specifically, the article focusses on how the economy-allocation of educational resources and policy bias affect the issue of educational inequality and inequity. Four key pieces of research related to Chinese educational inequality and inequity are addressed in this article: (1) Local fiscal revenue, (2) Family income, (3) The National College Examination's preference policy, and (4) Double-Reduction Policy. After finishing the research above, it gives the readers a whole perspective on educational inequality and inequity, which can make the educational regulators clearer to deal with them.

“CONVERGENCE 4.0” AS A STRATEGY FOR OVERCOMING REGIONAL DISPROPORTIONS IN THE PROCESS OF SMART URBANIZATION

Topicality. The transformation brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution has changed not only the technological chains of production, but also the very logic of urban development. The concept of Convergence 4.0 describes the synergy of digital, biological, and physical technologies that are integrated into socio-economic structures. Ukraine is actively integrating into the global Convergence 4.0 space, making digitalization a key factor in socio-economic development. At the same time, the digital inequality between large cities and peripheral territories is growing, forming an asymmetric landscape of access to technologies, knowledge, and opportunities. Within this process, a transformation of urban structures is observed: large cities remain centers of innovation, the digital economy, and creative industries, while small towns and villages remain at risk of "digital marginalization". Such an imbalance reflects not only spatial, but also social challenges - the need for a new development model that combines technological modernization with inclusiveness and sustainable growth. Aim and tasks. The purpose of the article is to examine the impact of Convergence 4.0 on the transformation of urbanization processes and the spatial structure of socio-economic development, and to identify opportunities to apply the "smart economy" to overcome regional disparities, improve the quality of life, and ensure balanced development of cities and communities. To achieve this goal, the following main tasks have been identified: Analyze the impact of intelligent technologies, artificial intelligence, and big data on the economic dynamics of cities and peripheries. Reveal the phenomenon of spatial transformation and platform urbanism as a systemic factor in rethinking urban space and overcoming the disproportionate development of regions. Formulate recommendations to address digital and infrastructure inequality by developing second-level smart regions, innovation clusters, and network partnerships among communities, universities, and businesses. Materials and methods. The article uses systemic-synergetic and spatial-economic approaches that combine elements of statistical analysis, comparative research, and analytical interpretation of publications by leading authors. Research results. The study identified and analyzed the impact of intelligent technologies, artificial intelligence, and big data on the economic dynamics of cities and peripheries. The phenomenon of spatial transformation and platform urbanism is revealed as a systemic factor in rethinking urban space and overcoming the disproportionate development of regions. It is demonstrated that Convergence 4.0, as a technological and spatial integration strategy, is capable of reducing regional disparities and creating the basis for sustainable post-war recovery in Ukraine. An algorithmic model of Convergence 4.0 is proposed, reflecting the interaction of technological, socio-economic, and spatial factors in the process of digital transformation, and is based on the principles of digital balance, spatial justice, and the concept of smart regional growth. The result of applying the model is the identification of an algorithm for the spatial transition from digital divergence to digital convergence. Recommendations are formulated to overcome digital and infrastructure inequality through the development of second-level smart regions, innovation clusters, and network partnerships among communities, universities, and businesses. Conclusion. Based on a comprehensive approach and a combination of economic, geographical and social analysis of the impact of the “Convergence 4.0” concept on the spatial organization of economic development and urbanization processes, it is proven that spatial convergence becomes a condition for overcoming regional disparities, when “smart” technologies, digital services and transport mobility become mechanisms for equalizing access to resources and development opportunities. Convergence 4.0, as a technological and spatial integration strategy, can reduce regional disparities and lay the foundation for sustainable post-war recovery in Ukraine, enabling medium-sized cities to become centers of polycentric development. The development of second-level smart regions, innovation clusters, and network partnerships between communities, universities, and businesses is a guarantee of overcoming digital and infrastructure inequality. The application of such concepts will contribute not only to the restoration of the economy and the reduction of regional disparities but also to laying the foundation for a new development model, in which urbanization processes are transformed into a source of long-term sustainability. Ukraine will be able to leverage international practices and its own potential to build an economy that ensures integration into the European space, improving the quality of life of the population, and enhancing resilience to global and domestic challenges.
