Abstract

This final chapter presents final thoughts and proposes some directions for further research. Promotion of excellence in education is valuable for many reasons. It has benefits for all parties involved: higher education institutions, policymakers, teaching staff, the participating students themselves and even the country as a whole. To further study this phenomenon, the book proposes to use a long-term view, a focus on students and teachers and a broader vision on talent. The theme of networks within and around honors education is an important focus point for future research. Students play a significant role as co-creator in their honors courses. Therefore, research into the role of bounded freedom within honors teaching and learning in order to evoke excellence among students is wanted. Also faculty development in honors pedagogies is needed. Honors programs challenge students and teachers to strive for the best. The honors students of today are likely to become the global leaders of tomorrow. It is crucial that honors education provides them with a chance to fully explore their talents in relation to ethical issues. Directly and indirectly, society as a whole also profits from having excellent education available to the best students. The authors of this book hope that the book helps to connect the people involved – and hopefully also new adapters – to continue to offer the best education for all students, including the ones who are able to do more and are willing to break the academic lock step.
