Abstract

Experimental results on nonlinear surface acoustic wave (SAW) waveform measurements are reported. A sampling optical probe with the spatial resolution 1.3 /spl mu/m and the bandwidth 1.5 GHz has been used to observe SAW in single crystal LiNbO/sub 3/ plates at the input frequency 200 MHz and input power up to 25 W. Breakdown of sine wave into several pulselike signals per period has been observed. Head-to-head collision of two SAW wave packets with duration 500 ns has also been studied. The waveforms are shown to be preserved in collision.
