Abstract

Phosphate glass with a composition of 15BaO-10PbO-5SrO-70P2O5 has been prepared by 2.45 GHz microwave heating. In the 31P MAS NMR spectra of this glass, we observed the strong Q3 band corresponding to the branching PO4 group which was not observed in the glass prepared by conventional electric furnace heating. The presence of branching points means that the glass prepared by microwave has three-dimensionally polymerized structure, which gives the higher stability of the glass.
