Summary

Introduction

Language comprehension and facial affect recognition in patients with autism spectrum disorder. Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by deficits in three domains, including social reciprocity; early language and communication problems; and restrictive, repetitive and stereotyped behaviors [1]. Among these deficits, particular interest in social dysfunction has been focused on the perception of emotional words and facial affect in patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) [2,3,4,5,6]. Patients with autism were impaired in their ability to recognize appropriate facial expressions in videotaped gestures, vocalizations and contexts [10]. Patients with Asperger’s syndrome had difficulty in the comprehension and production of facial and language expressions of emotion [6]
