Abstract

A boundary element formulation for generalized plane strain problems is presented using constant and quadratic elements. Generalized plane strain assumes that the strain ε 33 normal to the x 1- x 2 plane is constant. Generalized plane strain equations are obtained from the plane strain case ( ε 33 = 0) by modifying the traction boundary conditions. An example problem is considered to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed formulation.
