Abstract

We consider bound states of an electron in the field of a thin magnetic flux tube which are due to the anomaly of its magnetic moment. The binding energies appear to grow when decreasing the radius of the flux tube while keeping the anomaly fixed until the gap between electron and positron levels vanishes. We discuss possible implications for the ground state of QED.
