Abstract
Edited version of a paper presented at the 12th Southern African Universities Social Science Conference (SAUSSC) held in Gaborone, Botswana, 3 to 7 July, 1989. Examines the Southern African Interlibrary Lending System, based at the State Library in Pretoria, Republic of South Africa, from the Botswana point of view. Focuses on two of the seven Botswana members of the system: the University of Botswana and the Botswana National Library Service. The historical development of the system is traced as a background to the analysis. Raw data from the files of both institutions are analyses and the current manner of operation examined. In conclusion the paper, through an Index of Relative Utilization, attempts to answer the question of cooperation or dependency.
