Abstract

Intravesical instillation of BCG, first described in 1976, has now attained widespread usage in the treatment of superficial transitional cell carcinoma of bladder. Its impact has been greatest in high grade disease, notably carcinoma in situ where until recently a prophylactic cystoprostatectomy was routinely carried out because of the high risk of progression to incurable disease. The 381 pages of this book attest to the enthusiasm for intravesical BCG but also to the fact that this is the book of a meeting — held in fact in September 1988. British urologists have only recently taken up this type of treatment and will find this volume most useful, bringing together most of those who have published on the subject.
