International Participation in Cardiovascular Randomized Controlled Trials Sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

Recent trends toward liberalization and deregulation have sparked significant interest in the topic of international insurers' participation in foreign markets. This research develops a profile of foreign national market characteristics that attract international life insurer participation and additionally, empirically assesses the value that international participation has to the host market. Characteristics that are found to be statistically significant with respect to international participation include high levels of trade liberalization and/or low insurer market share concentration, high levels of national wealth, and high levels of government expenditure on social security retirement benefits. With respect to the benefits such participation provides, we see that the presence of international life insurers share positive relationships with both life insurance consumption and the magnitude of the role life insurance plays within the broader national economy of those host markets.

For two years, the Marine Metadata Interoperability (MMI) project has focused on improving marine data systems interoperability. Through community organizing and technical development, MMI has broadened awareness of the problems, increased community participation in its solutions, and advanced efforts toward interoperable data systems design. These universal themes match MMI's vision and mission, and demand an open cultural and technical approach. Good practices in data management, metadata, and engineering all represent international ambitions. Although funding sources for the Marine Metadata Interoperability project have been exclusively American, the project has always had international participation and flavor. Our original Steering Committee included international membership (Roy Lowry, of the British Oceanographic Data Centre), and several of our technical contributors are not from the United States. In presentations and meetings in 2005 in Brest, France, and Sardinia, Italy, the Principal Investigator found eager listeners and much agreement on goals and methods

Current ways of informal globalized communication involve digital genres facilitating increasingly dialogical, immediate interactions. One representative example is found in blogs, where users’ interaction is enabled through the genre of the comment to a previous post. In a corpus of 15 entries from 5 travel blogs, 318 comments have been analysed to study international participation in the blogosphere by different English users, native and non-native speakers. First, the quantity and length of their contributions are studied to consider the possible impact of their linguacultural background in ELF digital communication. Second, a discursive data-driven analysis of travel blog comments is provided, highlighting its most salient features, in order to better comprehend this specific digital discourse and to favour international successful participation in such a web-mediated environment.

ASME Standards and Certification: Now and Beyond

Access to safe drinking water is a basic human right in South Africa. Therefore, the accurate measurement of water quality is critical in ensuring the safety of water prior to its intended use. Proficiency testing schemes (PTSs) are a recognised form of assessing the technical competence of laboratories performing these analyses. There are over 200 water testing laboratories in South Africa, with only 51 being accredited for testing some or all parameters (physical, chemical and microbiological content) prescribed in SANS 241. Only a limited number of laboratories test for organic contaminants, as this requires advanced, costly analytical instrumentation, such as GC-FID/ECD/MS and LC-UV/MS, as well as skilled staff. These laboratories are either looking at selected organic contaminants listed in the World Health Organisation (WHO) drinking water guidelines or performing the minimum requirements, as stipulated in SANS 241, for phenols, atrazine, trihalomethanes and total dissolved organic content. Whereas several local PTS providers are addressing the competent assessment of microbiological, physical and inorganic chemical testing of water, a clear need for a South African PTS provider for organic contaminant analysis in water was identified by NMISA (National Metrology Institute of South Africa) in 2012. The key drivers for the coordination of a local PTS stem mainly from the limited stability of analytes in the samples for analysis and the high cost and logistics of international PTS participation. During 2012 and 2013, NMISA conducted a PTS trial round, a workshop and 2 additional PTS rounds for organochlorine pesticides in water, for South African laboratories, and also several international participants from other countries in Africa. This paper will highlight some of the challenges faced by laboratories when analysing organochlorine pesticides at the ng/l concentration level. Issues surrounding the comparability of measurement results, traceability, method validation and measurement uncertainty are also discussed.

The paper discusses epidemiological environment of particular countries and parts of the world viewed as potential platforms for mass events with international participation. It is established that the most unfavorable in this respect are Asian countries, primarily South-Eastern Asia ones, and African ones, from where the majority of well-known pandemics and epidemics have originated. Specified are the factors which are significant for spread of infectious diseases that can trigger emergency situation of sanitary epidemiological character of international concern. They are tourism and migration, trade and economic affairs, natural and anthropogenic disasters. The concept - “potential epidemic hazard of mass events with international participation” - is defined. It is demonstrated that its structure comprises two levels: the natural background of endemic and imported as related to mass event region epidemiological hazards, and epidemiological hazards imposed by the event itself. Outlined is a step-by-step algorithm for assessment of “potential epidemic hazard” of mass events with international participation allowing for adjustment of measures for the provision of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population.

This article examines the impact of international trade fair participation on exports of China as explained by participation in overseas international trade fairs organized by the China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). The findings of this article suggest that international trade fair participation causes incremental changes in exports. To make this study more cogent, the macroeconomic characteristics of China and export destination countries have been considered for the model along with the variable international trade fair participation. On the basis of the treatment effect model, this study investigates whether international trade fair participation is an important factor in enhancing exports of the country. Likewise, this study also encapsulates the explanation of the other macroeconomic characteristics of the destination countries that determine the international trade fair participation of China in those countries. Overall, this article shows that international trade fair participation is one of the important factors that enhance China's export to the various destinations of the world.

The intensification of the technogenic impact on the biosphere, which, as V.I. All-Russian scientific conference with international participation “Thermophysical basis of energy technologies” (TBET 2021) was held at National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, Tomsk, Russia, October 26-28, 2021.Scientific reports of participants were made in three sections covering the following topics:1. Combustion technologies; 2. Technical thermal physics and nuclear energy; 3. Thermal engineering and automation of technological processes and metrology measurement systems; Over 60 attendees took part in the Conference in both online and offline formats. In the 1970s, migration diplomacy became central to Taiwan's strategy of seeking international participation. The Taiwanese case is of interest because it has been understudied in the existing literature and can help expand the understanding of how migration diplomacy has been used by distinct states to achieve their foreign policy aims. For Taiwan, legitimacy and international participation were paramount and were key foreign policy goals linked to refugee resettlement. The example of Taiwan's migration diplomacy as a path to international participation on which this article focuses is Taiwan's coordination with the United States to help resettle refugees from the Vietnam War.

Under the chairmanship of a member-correspondent of the Academy of Sciences of RT, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor N F Kashapov, in 2016 from 6 to 9 November in the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan Federal University held the scientific-technical conference “Low-temperature plasma in a functional coating process” (with international participation).The modern development of technology requires a broad introduction to the industry of new efficient processes based on innovative achievements in the field of science and technology. One of the areas, significantly expands technological possibilities of material processing process, is the use of concentrated energy flows, which are prepared using a low-temperature plasma generators. In order to create conditions for the unification of Russian and foreign scientists, engineers and technologists in the solution of fundamental and applied problems in the fields of research processes applying functional coatings, plasma dynamics, plasma modification of materials of low-temperature plasma flows.Topics of the conference were oriented in the following directions:1. A large number of young participants testifies to the continuity of scientific traditions represented at the conference of scientific schools, the present and the relevance of these research schools.

On October 9-11, 2019, the Third All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation "Theory and Practice of Modern Morphology" was held on the basis of the State Agency of State Administration "DMA". and clinical institutions in Ukraine and other countries. Television and the media began covering this event before the conference.
