Abstract

The University of Florida (UF) Bone Bank was established in July 1983 to supply frozen allograft bone for the reconstruction of large segmental defects created by wide excision of musculoskeletal tumors in UF patients. In July 1985, with increasing demand for freeze-dried bone and soft tissue grafts, the Bone Bank became the UF Tissue Bank and began processing and distribution of freeze-dried bone, frozen large segmental, and soft tissue grafts, including fascia lata, Achilles tendon/calcaneus, and patella/tendon/tubercle units to requesting centers. All procedures were delineated in accordance with American Association of Tissue Banks guidelines, with additional UF standards.
