Abstract

Three commercially available xylanases were tested in the bleaching of Kraft pulps from Eucaliptus globulus and Eucaliptus nitens. These xylanase preparations, in combination with the sequence D 0 E OP D 1 1 , led to savings of chlorine dioxide that were in the range of 12 to 40% without affecting the target brightness of 90% ISO. Enzyme-treated pulps required slightly higher beating to reach the same freeness than the controls, although the strength properties of both pulps were similar.
