Unlike many other pollutants, heavy metals are non-degradable and are persistent in the environment. Toxicity of heavy metals resulted from the interaction of metals with enzymes and inhibition of metabolic processes. Bioremediation is a technique used to alleviate toxicity of heavy metals.
