Abstract

Chrysomela rossia Illiger, a univoltine chrysomelid defoliator of Linaria genistifolia (L.) Mill., its only recorded host, appeared to be a promising biocontrol agent for Dalmatian toadflax, Linaria genistifolia dalmatica (L.) Maire and Petitmengin in the United States. In the laboratory, however, C. rossia fed on a wide range of plants and developed to the adult stage on the economically important plants Mentha piperita L. and Antirrhinum majus L. Therefore, C. rossia should not be introduced into the United States.
