Abstract

AbstractHerein, a series of molecular nickel tripyridine‐diamine catalysts endowed with different proximal functional groups −NH2 (1), −CH3 (2), and −OCH3 (3) in the second coordination sphere for hydrogen evolution from neutral water are reported. The −NH2 group shows a beneficial effect in the hydrogen evolution reaction. Intramolecular protonation on reductive nickel core assisted by the positioned amine in complex 1 results in a much faster protonation rate than that of 2 and 3, and is responsible for the higher catalytic activity in neutral water.
