Abstract

Abstract The binomial effect size display (BESD) was designed to indicate the practical importance of any particular effect size estimate. The BESD displays the difference between two proportions such as the difference between the success rate of a new intervention and the success rate of the standard intervention. For example, an r of 0.20 is said to account for ‘only 4% of the variance’, but the BESD shows that this proportion of variance accounted for is equivalent to increasing the success rate (e.g., survival rate, improvement rate, etc.) from 40 to 60%.
