Abstract

ileum of animals fed SFA and given control vehicle. Steroids increased the ileal proglucagon expression. In summary, these locally and systemically active steroids, when given in doses that are used clinically, increase the intestinal absorption of fructose by a process which can be enhanced by the substitution of saturated for polyunsaturated lipids in the diet, and this effect may be signalled by variations in ERG and proglucagon expression.
