Abstract

The parameter dependence of the critical neutral pressure in the private flux region which is required to achieve the transition to partially detached divertor plasmas on DIII-D is found to depend linearly on the parallel heat flux and on the connexion length to the target plates. For the ITER geometry, the scaling indicates that the transition would occur at a similar neutral pressure in the private flux region, namelly 0.5 Pa.
