Abstract
ABSTRACT The Rohingya refugee crisis has been a major concern since 2017 when hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims were displaced from Myanmar to Bangladesh. To address the overcrowding issue in the Cox’s Bazar refugee camps and provide a more sustainable living environment for the refugees, the Bangladeshi Government initiated a controversial relocation project to Bhasan Char. However, the relocation project is contested because this low-lying island is vulnerable to flooding and other environmental problems. This study examines the main issues and difficulties surrounding the transfer of Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char and also explores the potential for Rohingyas to be repatriated to Myanmar.
