Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter presents experiments to analyze Bereitschaftspotential in Parkinsonian patients. Experiments were carried out in 22 Parkinsonian patients showing more Akinesia than tremor. 10 of them were hemi-Parkinson cases. Patients lay comfortably in an EEG chair performing quick voluntary volar flexions of the index finger by pulling the trigger of a pistol, at the very first displacement of which an electric pulse was generated. Self-paced movements were performed at irregular intervals, mean intervals between movements being three to four seconds. The electromyogram (EMG) of the rioht and left flexorindic is muscle was recorded, rectified, and averaged to determine the exact onset of movement. During the experiment, the patient fixed his gaze on a given point and the electrooculogram was recorded. All samples containing eye movement and other artifacts were marked online by an electric signal. When reverse-time analyzing the tape-stored data was contaminated, the samples were automatically rejected.
