Abstract

To figure out mechanical behavior of CFRP strips confined partially encased concrete (PEC) columns under axial compressive load, the axial compression tests were carried out. The effects of different parameters, including number of CFRP strip layers, net spacing of CFRP strip and slenderness ratio, on the axial compression performance of the tested columns were analyzed. The results showed that CFRP strips confined PEC columns could enhance the ultimate strength and stiffness, and delayed effectively the local buckling of PEC columns. Additionally, a simplified equation was proposed to predict the ultimate strength of CFRP strips confined partially encased concrete columns.
