A Solution to Optimize Enterprise Business and Operation Process
  • Jan 1, 2013
  • Xue-wu Chang + 2 more

Process continuous optimization plays an important role in enterprise informatization; however, there are few solutions with good operation and practicability for enterprises to implement. In this paper, a solution was proposed, which included a decomposition method of business process named “Timeline-Place-Roles (TPR)” and an “8 steps” value-added method of process analysis and continuous optimization based on the value chain. Then this paper took the “product-prepared” business process of a Chinese continuous manufacture enterprise as a case, and made the case analysis and optimization by using the solution. The results proved that the solution could optimize enterprise business process and improve the effect continuously and deepen informatization application to a certain extent.

Dynamic Adaptation Method of Business Process Based on Hierarchical Feature Model
  • Sep 5, 2021
  • Information
  • Le Zhang + 2 more

With the continuous complexity and frequent changes in business application scenarios, companies urgently need to establish a flexible business process management mechanism that includes dynamic rules, in which dynamic adaptation methods of business processes play a vital role. Aiming at the problem that the current methods only use the preset process template and the decision-making database, it cannot respond quickly to business changes and reconfigure the business process. This research proposes a dynamic adaptation method of business process based on the hierarchical feature model, builds a hierarchical feature model of complex processes, then establishes a hierarchical business policy set to achieve an agile response to business emergencies. By constructing a mapping model, the feature model is associated with the BPMN model to realize the rapid execution of the reconfiguration process model. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by process examples and the developed business process dynamic adaptation tool.

Extending BPM(N) to Support Face-to-Virtual (F2V) Process Modeling
  • Jan 1, 2021
  • Sasha Rudan + 2 more

In this paper, we present research on CoPI4P (Community of Practice & Interest for Purpose) communities that consist of knowledge and creative workers in domains such as education, environmentalism, inter-disciplinary research, engaged art, and practice F2V (face-to-virtual) processes, i.e. processes that consist of both face-toface and virtual (online) activities. Standards and methods for modeling business processes have successfully solved various crucial problems, such as providing boundary objects (or a common language) between business analysts, domain experts, process performers and business solutions developers. Performers can execute business processes with standards that support the execution of such processes. However, for CoPI4P communities, BPM standards 1) require additional domain specialization and 2) are either too imperative, or fail to provide enough guidance. This paper identifies these challenges and provides partial solutions applicable to modeling and supporting CoPI4P communities and the corresponding F2V business processes. In addition, results of focus groups interviews and surveys are provided that shed light, notably, on the way CoPI4P communities have been impacted by COVID-19 and how they have coped with digital disruptions to their working models. Our contribution to business processes management lies in researching and identifying the peculiarities of such communities and their workflows, followed by interventions in the BPM, and particularly the BPMN, domain. We then propose a toolset of BPMN extensions required to match the observed F2V workflows and thus to digitalize CoPI4P business models. In this context, we introduce the notion of sub-process palettes as a means to reduce the rigidity, and introduce personalization, of processes.

Methods of structural analysis of business processes
  • Jan 1, 2018
  • MATEC Web of Conferences
  • Jarosław Koszela

The article outlines selected methods for analyzing business processes: their definitions and instances. The methods for analytical processing of processes constitute a component of the Business Intelligence environment - process warehouses, including methods for analytical processing and exploration of the collected process definitions and instances - i.e. process mining. One of the main elements of the analysis of processes is to determine the similarity between them. In systems for analyzing large sets of elements, the method of determining similarity should be efficiency because is the basis for others analysis methods, e.g. clustering, classification, etc. A method for analyzing structural similarity of business processes, based on the similarity of sequences of genetic tags of such processes, was presented using the similarity analysis methods based on the editing distance and the developed methods of structural similarity: GNM, DNM, GCM, DCM. The presented similarity methods were used to clustering processes and to determine the central element of the cluster. The developed methods form the basis for the development of similarity methods extended to aspects of semantic similarity of business processes and methods of analysis and exploration of processes.

Research on Execution Mechanism of Modeling Method for Business Process Based on Petri Net
  • Nov 1, 2010
  • Yongping Hao + 4 more

There are two kinds of nodes which are place nodes and transition nodes in an original Petri net, and this state leads to confusion in nodes management. Through theoretical analysis, modeling method for business process is proposed by merging the two kinds of nodes based on Petri net. Execution mechanism of the method is mainly studied. Using token, process instance can run quickly to navigate current node, and node's execution is set by transfer of the token. Cumbersome state maintenances are avoided in this way, furthermore, nodes become easier to implement and understand through the modeling method. The method is particularly feasibility when dealing with modeling business process of drawings design and approval.

Modelling method of dynamic business process based on pi-calculus
  • Jan 1, 2018
  • International Journal of Computational Science and Engineering
  • Weimin Li + 2 more

The formal modelling for dynamic business process is to make the collaborative relationship between organisations more detailed and explicit. It is convenient for the people to analyse the structure and interaction of the cross-organisational business process, especially dynamic business process, and assure the optimisation of the system architecture. Based on the channel mobility of pi-calculus, a new modelling method of the dynamic business process is proposed by combining with the extended directed acyclic graph. It is mainly discussed from three aspects: the selection of the interactive paths, the transition of business objects and the validation of accuracy. Meanwhile, a concrete example with multiple roles is presented to assist in the implementation of the method. It concludes that the method can effectively distinguish the collaborative relationship between organisations, and also be used to build formal models of complicated and dynamic business processes with the mature technology.

A Task-Based Modeling Method for Process Modeling and Automation in Project Management
  • Oct 1, 2008
  • Jingmin Wang + 1 more

By introducing best as standard process models, business process standardization and reengineering have assisted in achieving the efficiency of the project development. However, they have also resulted in many problems because a standard model has limited flexibility to suit different practices of different projects. This paper presents a Task-Based Modeling method (TBM) for modeling processes in project management. Key business tasks are defined as the basic task components. Supplementing each task with an execution method and detailed attributes, its action can be fully defined and its outcome can be measured. A business process model can then be created to meet the need of the particular business by using the task components as the basic building blocks. A request-driven approach is also proposed to instantiate an instance of a process model. A purchasing process is used as an example to illustrate the presented methodology.

The design, modeling, optimization, reengineering, and coupling of business processes in e-commerce environment have gradually become a hot research topic. Business processes must be strictly described and validated by formal methods to ensure their reliability and efficiency. This paper systematically studies the introduction of new business process characteristics into behavioral temporal logic and extend TLA to obtain a new logic system PTLA, which enriches the theoretical system of formal method of business process under the environment of e-commerce. The paper also discusses Petri nets and show how to convert Petri nets into TLA. A parallel Petri net model was built to represent the dynamic, concurrency and flexibility, and cross-organizational e-commerce business process. Finally, the use of simulation to extend the business process execution language BPEL to TLA.

Supervisory Control for Business Process Management Systems
  • Jan 1, 2013
  • Mohamed Karim Aroua + 1 more

The behavior of a business process often needs to be constrained according to a given control specification, that comes to cope with new business requirements. Such a control, called supervisory control, is applied to an existing business process specification without having to re-design the running procedures. Hence, there is no need to create a new complete business process model every time the control parameters change. The objective of supervisory control is to limit the behavior of the initial business process to only desired situations. In this paper, a controller synthesis method for business processes is proposed by adapting the supervisory control theory initiated by Ramadge and Wonham. Business process models are specified by using a variant of Workflow nets, which introduces colors in order to represent different process instances and the related data. An algorithm allowing automatic generation of a controller described by a colored Petri net is provided in this paper.

An evaluation method for dynamic combination among OSGi bundles based on service gateway capability
  • Nov 1, 2008
  • IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics
  • Jung-Eun Lim + 2 more

A user may use a software bundle provided by vendors to control consumer electronics (CEs) in a home network environment. Software was developed as a bundle composed of various components and registered to an OSGi service registry, thus, a user can select a suitable bundle and implement it in a service gateway. There's no need to consider hardware when using a single bundle, because this was handled by hardware, service gateway specifications. But using several bundles to implement a business process for simultaneous control of various CEs is a different matter. If hardware resource sharing was not considered in development, then quality of service (QoS) of the business process cannot be guaranteed. Thus, we need an evaluation method for a user-defined business process, to guarantee QoS in business process modeling. This paper suggests a representative evaluation algorithm by considering metadata about bundle distribution as evaluation items, such as method response time, component response time, memory space and CPU capacity. Also, this paper suggests a business process simulator. It enables constructions of simulations for the efficiency of evaluation items and methods. A user uses a simulator to select a suitable bundle for hardware and easily makes and verifies a suitable business process for their goals.
