Abstract
We have already reported1 that gouty patients have a tendency to higher urinary levels excretion of purine bases in comparison to normal subjects. Since diet plays a very important role in this pathology, we analyzed the behavior of oxypurines (hypoxanthine and xanthine) and uric acid in gouty subjects after an 8 day purine-free diet (this diet is reported in table 1). This type of diet limits the ingestion of preformed purines to add to the burden of the uric acid pool and urinary disposal, as well as the ingestion of dietary constituents which can promote endogenous production of purines.2
