Abstract

In recent years there has been a growing tendency to view the psychotherapy process within the broader context of behavior modification research. These research approaches have given fuller recognition to the fact that the therapist’s behavior is a major influence in the therapy process. This chapter will discuss some underlying assumptions about psychotherapy from a behavior modification point of view and illustrate the relevance of this approach with two types of behavior modification research, verbal conditioning, and behavior therapy.
