Abstract

High fidelity simulation has been recognized as an effective method for educating and assessing competence of medical emergency teams. But what about the first 3 minutes of an event, before the medical emergency/code team arrives? In January, 2010, an in-situ medical emergency simulation for non-code team staff program was implemented at a large urban trauma center. Mock codes were not new to staff, but the use of simulation methodology and a high fidelity mannequin was new. These in-situ mock codes occur each shift, on every nursing unit, each quarter.
