Abstract

This investigation deals with the geometrically non-linear static analysis of space frames subjected to discrete and distributed transverse loads using the beam-column method. An exact expression of the beam-column equivalent load vector has been derived and it has been proved that the first term in its Taylor's series expansion is identical to the static consistent equivalent load vector of the finite element method. The results of a beam-column, a plane frame and a space frame obtained by the beam-column method are compared with those of finite element method.
