Abstract

In the Japanese Spallation Neutron Source (JSNS) of JPARC, mercury is utilized as a target material. Since serious pitting erosion was found at the target vessel at SNS in ORNL and JSNS, a reduction of a peak current density is required. In order to decrease the peak, we have developed the beam optics based on a non-linear using an octupole magnets. In a design calculation, it is found that the peak current density of 30 % can be reduced by introducing the octupole magnets.
